Design Elements
Component 3: Atmosphere, Blood, and the Supernatural
What this task rewards: Concept Consistency
Strong responses maintain a consistent directorial concept. If you choose WW1 trenches, your set (mud/metal), costume (uniforms), sound (artillery), and lighting (cold searchlights) must belong to the same world. Design should also track Macbeth’s psychological decay and the unnatural presence of the Witches.
Set Design
Castles, heathlands, levels of power, and brutalist architecture.
Costume
The accumulation of blood, royal robes, and armour.
Lighting
Chiaroscuro shadows, demonic up-lighting, and the colour of treason.
Sound
Pathetic fallacy, war drums, and the heartbeat of guilt.
