Set Design
Build one flexible world rather than several heavy naturalistic sets.
Core principle
Because the play is episodic, the set should transform quickly. A bench, platform, frame, hospital screen or movable block can reconfigure the stage faster than large scenic units.
Useful visual idea
Create a central playing area surrounded by social edges: street corners, seating, screens or frames. That allows Martin to be physically central yet socially judged from all sides.
Locations to suggest efficiently
- Street or public space
- Home or family interior
- Hospital or recovery environment
- Club, social or peer-group area
Audience effect
A sparse but purposeful set keeps attention on faces, bodies and changing relationships. It also makes the shifts between public confidence and private vulnerability easier to stage.
