Sweaty, Energetic & Raw

Frantic Assembly use a method called "The Building Blocks" to create high-energy, athletic theatre that feels raw and "sweaty." They mix fast physical movement with naturalistic dialogue.

Interactive: The Building Blocks

Frantic believes you don't need to be a dancer to move. Click through the steps below to see how a complex lift is built from simple, safe instructions.

1. Task
2. Develop
3. Meaning
The Simple Task:
Start with something ordinary. Actor A places their hand on Actor B's shoulder. Actor B leans their weight slightly into the hand. No acting required, just physics.
Develop & Exaggerate:
Push the physics further. Actor B leans so far they begin to fall. Actor A must step in and catch them by the hips to stop them hitting the floor, shifting their center of gravity.
Add Context = Meaning:
Now apply it to a scene. Actor B is desperately trying to leave the room; Actor A catches them, lifting them effortlessly off the floor to prevent them from escaping. The simple touch is now a dramatic, flying lift.
